My Experience so far. By Danielle Wilson

I have been at Moore Finance for one month now and I have enjoyed every minute so far. I have been up to many different tasks allowing me to discover more about marketing. Each week has been very productive and I have learnt more and more every time. I always look forward to each week and what it will bring me, and I can’t wait for the following weeks to come!
As a marketing apprentice I have focused a lot on social media in the past couple of weeks; I have learnt more about how important and useful social media is now for businesses. In my first week here, I set up an Academy Twitter profile which I use weekly to record my progress here at Moore Finance. I follow relevant accounts who I think will follow and retweet my posts. I currently have 25 followers that will hopefully increase the more I use my account.

Also on my first week here, I came up with ideas that I believe would have encouraged visitors to Moore Business Management’s stand at the LVBizExpo. I researched into the LVBizExpo and found out more about the event in order to help me to come up with relevant ideas. I came up with several ideas such as using their Twitter profiles in the lead up to the event, because this would enable businesses to be aware that they will be attending and where they will be during the event.

I sat in a meeting during my first week here with Steph and Steve, which was about a hotel company called Park Hall Hotel located in Conwy. They had asked for help on creating a new brochure so that it could look more professional and enticing for customers. By sitting in the meeting I could find out more about the Marketing side here. I was given the task to write up the text in the leaflet that they had provided; I then had to re-word it so that the text was more interesting for customers. I really enjoyed this, because it allowed me to be involved with a real client.

On the 13th and 14th of October, I was given the task of following up the Expo Event by using the business cards that were collected during the Expo and following each business on the Moore Business Management Twitter account and liking each business Facebook page. This would allow Moore Business Management to contact the businesses they met at the Expo.

In addition, I also researched into info-graphics based around marketing, branding and social media. This was very interesting, because I found out how businesses can use info-graphics to boost their marketing and social media. I then came up with some ideas for an info-graphic for Moore Business Management. I was able to be creative in coming up with ideas about how Moore Business Management’s info-graphic should look.
I now help Leanne in the running of the Moore Finance Twitter page. I was taught how to use TweetDeck so that I could send out scheduled tweets. I also found out about how Moore Finance use different hashtags such as ‘#BizHour’ in order to boost the amount of people that see their tweets.

My first day at Moore Finance...

Hello, my name is Danielle Wilson and I am currently in year 12 at Future Tech Studio studying Business and Finance and Maths. I am very interested in Business and Finance.

My first day at Moore Finance has been very enjoyable and I am looking forward to the rest of my time here as a Marketing Apprentice. At the start of today, I was introduced to everyone in the company and I was given a tour of the office so that I am aware of where to go. Next, I was given a folder which included: The company handbook, a New Starter form, a fact finder sheet and information about what Moore Finance offer to their clients.

The fact finder task was helpful, because it enabled me to learn in detail about Moore Finance. Furthermore, the company handbook was useful in learning important information about working here such as: The Health and Safety procedures. In addition, today enabled me to find out what I will be doing during my work placement here at Moore Finance.

I believe that my work placement will bring me valuable work experience that will boost my CV and enable me to progress into my desired career in the future. In addition, during my time here I aim to realise my full potential and I will work very hard in order to achieve this.

I was attracted to this post at the Careers Fair at Future Tech Studio, because of the Marketing position that was being offered. I am very interested in Marketing and how companies have different marketing strategies so that they can achieve their business aims and objectives. I am also intrigued to how social media is becoming a large influence on companies as part of their marketing strategies. Moreover, when I spoke to the students who had their work placements at Moore Finance last year, it sounded like a friendly working environment that I would like to be a part of.

Starting at Moore Finance

Hello, my name is Felicity and i currently attend Future Tech Studio based in Warrington. I am interested in business and finance so to follow my interest I'm studying Business, English and Maths.

My first day at Moore Finance so far has been more relaxed than I initially thought it would be. Because it was a basic introduction day to see what type of work I would be doing and to get a feel of the workplace during the tour given when I first arrived. The process so far has been very straightforward and easy to follow. Also the team has been very welcoming and have different but friendly vibes to them, so it was easy to get along with them and nice to meet them. The fact finder that I given to complete was also a very helpful tool in helping me to learn out more about Moore Finance.

During the interview stage that took place in the Career’s Fair at Warrington Collegiate business school what first caught my attention was the way Moore Finance’s logo stood out among most of the other companies logo’s in the room. The job post description for a Media Apprentice caught my attention because it stood out to me by fitting my interest of doing something outside of business while it still being something fun that interests me and I already have some knowledge on.

My placement aims are to gain general knowledge and experience in how a business operates from the front lines and to improve certain skills such as web design and video animation, whilst also improving my CV. These are my placement aims, but to also prepare and gain for when I enter the business world by building my own company some day in the not so distant future.

Work Experience: Day Two By Lauryn Baker

My second day at Moore was just as good as my first.

I came in and made some coffee for the team and began to print and organise the product sheets I would need for the Greater Manchester Biz Expo I would be attending with Steph, Marketing Manager.

When I had all the product and information sheets organised into the relevant folders, I then began researching and recording information about some of the businesses that were exhibiting at the event. I managed to research about 50 out of the 120 companies, then it was time to set off!

We got to the Manchester Hilton hotel where it was being hosted at around 2:00pm and visited all of the stands. We chatted to people about their businesses and made some new contacts. We exchanged business cards with all different types of businesses - from car leasing companies to lighting specialists. We stayed for around an hour, then headed back to the office.

When we arrived back at Moore I began inputting all of the companies details into excel, recording conversations and action points for follow-ups. Before I knew it, it was 5pm so I planned to continue the work the next morning.

My Moore Finance Work Experience By Lauryn Baker

We recently welcomed Lauryn Baker into our team on a week's work experience programme. We asked her to complete a blog that would share her time with us and hopefully encourage young people to participate in work experience and employers to offer placements to them.

We hope you enjoy part 1!

Stephanie Jones, Marketing Manager

Sourcing My Work Experience Placement

My name is Lauryn Baker and I am a year 10 student at Future Tech Studio, on the business and finance pathway.

At Future Tech, all students are offered 10 days work experience per year, including employer based workshops and 3 hours a week of project based learning in which they are given either an employer based project or a task set by the school.

Currently, during project based learning, the business and finance pathway are working with Moore Finance on a corporate social responsibility based task with the Moore Foundation children's charitable trust.

After three weeks of working on the project, I was approached by Moore to see if I had my upcoming work placement sorted. I had managed to arrange my second week, however I didn’t have my first one organised, so it was a good opportunity for me to go to Moore.

Moore asked me what areas of business I was interested in and of course my answer was Marketing, as it is one of my strengths and is something I enjoy. So my placement was arranged and would take place from June 8th – June 12th.

Day One

On my first day I arrived at the office and was greeted by Matt, the Business Development Manager, and by 9:00am I had met some of the team including Leanne, Nigel and Tom, a year 12 student who is also from Future Tech and on an Apprenticeship with Moore.

My first task was to add all of Moore Finance's contacts to Mailchimp, an e-newsletter platform, as well as updating all the contacts without email addresses. Once I had done this, I then researched the contact names, email addresses, phone numbers, and addresses of all the primary schools in Warrington and added them to an excel database. This data was due be used for a task later in the week.

Throughout the day I spoke to people and felt very welcome and comfortable, I even had my own desk!

My business experience so far...

My name is Tom Bogle and I am a student who is currently studying at the Future Tech School in Warrington. I am interested in business and finance and at my college I am studying Business, Physics and Maths.

Tom Bogle
As part of the Future Tech course you are given the chance to gain work experience in your chosen pathway. I have been offered a placement with a company called Moore Finance where I am currently working at. I have been given a different task to work on every week to help me gain business skills in different areas.

As part of the Moore Academy I have been given the opportunity to acquire important business skills as well as gaining experience to extend my business knowledge. During my first week at Moore Finance I was given the task to research through LinkedIn and try to find potential new customers for Moore Finance to gain links with. During my second week at Moore I was given the task to create a twitter profile and link up with the team and the business online.

I am eager and looking forward to further set tasks and the opportunity to learn more about business and finance as well as more about the company. Be sure to come back to my blog to keep up to date on my progress.

Exploring a new way to learn…

My name is Danielle Bush, and I am currently a student in my first year at Future Tech Studio School studying A-level Math’s and Business and Finance.

Danielle Bush
My first steps to a new way of learning…began at FTS, with the school being evolved around creating a new and innovative approach to education for 14-19 year olds, mixing vocational and academic qualifications with real life work experience…how was this an opportunity I could just pass by?

So like all students at FTS we took a chance with not following the pack to go to the ‘usual’ and ‘regular’ colleges that everyone else went to, but we saw the potential of great things being able to happen, took it and ran with it and this is how I ended up here…Moore Finance.

The second steps to a new way of learning…were becoming a part-time apprentice at Moore Academy. Again another opportunity not to miss, learning on the job, support during training, support and help for my coursework, I couldn’t of asked for better. Being a very hands on learner this is possibly the most productive way for me to progress.

The first day to a new way of learning…
The quick meet and greet with the rest of the team put me at ease with starting at Moore the following week. After weeks of start dates being discussed and my eagerness building the day finally came, Tuesday 3rd February. The first day saw me searching for businesses in the scaffolding industry, gathering their information, contact details, and managing directors names for possible future customers for Moore Finance themselves. Even though it was a simple job, the future prospect of what could happen with a company that I found all the details for is very exciting. My first day and I already felt part of the company.
